Railroads in the late 1800s to the mid 1900s were one of the biggest Trade modes in the world. Even today it is used to transport tons of fuel across continents. The Transcontinental started this revolution of Transcontinental shipping, and from this point forward all transportation routes will start to become as efficient as possible.
As you can see trucking is a huge part of sending and receiving goods, but without the train the cars and trucks we have today wouldn't be the same. The train and other early steam vehicles evolved into cars " A horse that never runs out of energy", and after that big trucks came in to use to get goods places fast.
