As you can see the railroads in America during the time of the transcontinental railroad were all in the East, but only because the West was just now getting settled. That changed real fast, because after the railroad was finished businesses moved West, cities were built, and soon enough the West populated. The Transcontinental Railroad was the gateway to the West, or the birth of the
West.

As the years passed on, railroads spread all over the United States. You could put anything on a train, and send it just about anywhere through the veins of railroads.
