THE MOVE WEST
During and after the gold rush thousands upon thousands of people moved west to get more land and more money. Unfortunately this was a long deadly journey in which thousands of people died. This problem was fixed once the Transcontinental Railroad was finished. Settlers could now travel to Omaha with as much of their possessions as they could carry, and set off to the West and be there in just a few days. This was much safer and faster than the Oregon trail that took months to travel.
